The Cotentin is not a golf destination, and that is rather the point: four 18-hole courses and a pretty nine, none of them crowded, two of them true seaside links, all of them open through the winter when the beaches are empty and the green fees drop by a third. Below, the five we would send a guest to, in order of distance from the château. Prices are the 2026 visitor rates published by the clubs; we last checked them on 2 October 2026.
Golf Utah Beach — 25 minutes
The nearest 18 and the natural first round: a par 72 of over 5,800 metres at Fontenay-sur-Mer, nine holes of links facing the island of Tatihou and the Vauban towers, nine in the marsh and hedgerows behind. Open every day; clubhouse restaurant at lunch, Tuesday to Sunday; trolleys and buggies for hire. Green fee €56 (€42 in low season), nine holes €38. Golf de Cherbourg — 25 minutes
A nine-hole par 36 above the harbour at La Glacerie, called one of the prettiest nines in Normandy by the regional tourist board: narrow, tree-lined fairways, small well-guarded greens, rhododendrons in spring and roe deer in the early morning. Played twice for 18. Restaurant, practice, club hire. Green fee €50 for 18 holes (€40 from November to March), €40 for nine (€30). Website · book a tee time · +33 2 33 44 45 48 · directions.
Golf de la Côte des Isles — 45 minutes
On the west coast at Saint-Jean-de-la-Rivière, next to Barneville-Carteret: an 18-hole par 67 of about 4,630 metres in two halves — the Dunes, a genuine links along the beach with Cap de Carteret and Jersey in view, and the Mielles, inland among ponds and hedges. Open all year, seven days a week; bar and six-hole pitch & putt. The club’s own website is being rebuilt, so tee times and prices are on GolfNow: up to about €52 for 18 holes in high season (1 April to 31 October), less in winter and late in the day; buggies €33, clubs for hire. Website · book a tee time · +33 2 33 87 31 10 · directions.
Golf de Coutainville — 1 hour
A seaside course from the 1920s in the resort of Agon-Coutainville: 18 holes, par 68, 4,924 metres, links holes by the beach and bocage holes behind. Open all year, restaurant in the clubhouse, buggies and half-sets for hire. Green fee €74 in season, €55 in low season; nine holes €48 / €41; a sunset rate of €48 after six. Website · book a tee time · +33 2 33 47 03 31 · directions.
Golf de Granville — 1 h 30
The one worth a day. Laid out by Harry Colt in 1912 on the dunes at Bréville-sur-Mer, Granville’s Links is a par 72 of 6,132 metres that the club describes, fairly, as Irish or Scottish in character — Granville and its rock, the Chausey archipelago and sometimes the Channel Islands in the same view. A nine-hole Dunes course sits beside it. Restaurant upstairs in the pavilion. Green fee €105 in high season (16 March to 15 November), €65 in low season, with a Tuesday rate of €74 / €46; the Dunes nine €39 / €32. Website · book a tee time · +33 2 33 50 23 06 · directions.
Three courses for €130
Utah Beach, the Côte des Isles and Cherbourg sell a joint Pass’ Golf en Cotentin: one 18-hole green fee at each of the three, €130 per person, valid all year. With the château in the middle of the triangle it makes a comfortable three-day programme — one course a morning, the D-Day beaches or the coast in the afternoon.
Practical notes. Visitors do not need to be club members. Trolleys and buggies can be hired everywhere and half-sets at most of the clubs, so there is no need to bring a bag on the ferry — ask when you book. In the Cotentin the wind is the real hazard: west-coast courses play very differently morning and afternoon, and a dry November day is often better golf than a gusty August one.
