Between the Cap de Carteret and the Rozel headland stretches one of the largest dune massifs of the west coast: the dunes of Hatainville. Protected by the Conservatoire du littoral, this shifting landscape of sand and marram grass rises into perched dunes overlooking the sea — scenery you would not expect to find in Normandy.
Below, the beach is immense, wild and often nearly empty, even in summer. This is the spot for long barefoot walks, kites and picnics facing the Channel Islands.
Bring good shoes for climbing the dunes, and keep to the paths: the site is fragile — that is also what makes it so beautiful.
